Solar Panels

The panel is the most visible part of a system and, on its own, the least decisive. The right panel is not the most efficient one; it is the one that suits your roof, your budget and how long you expect the system to last.

The real difference between panel technologies

Almost all residential and commercial installations today use monocrystalline panels. Polycrystalline is cheaper but produces less from the same area; on a limited roof that difference feeds straight through to the system.

TOPCon and similar newer cell structures behave better in low light and at high temperatures. In a region like Thrace — windy, and hot in summer — the temperature coefficient can matter more than the headline efficiency figure.

Half-cut cells and shading behaviour

In half-cut panels the cell string is divided in two. If part of the panel is shaded, output does not collapse entirely — only the shaded half is affected. On roofs with chimneys, trees or rooftop equipment casting shade, this makes a visible difference.

Where shading is a serious problem, the layout is worked out before the panel is chosen, and panel-level optimisation is considered if needed.

When flexible panels are used

Flexible panels are used on caravan roofs, boat decks and roofs with low load-bearing capacity. They weigh very little and can follow a curved surface.

Against that, their life is shorter than glass panels and their efficiency slightly lower. On a fixed roof where weight is not a problem, a glass panel is always the better choice.

How to choose

Roof area

Where area is tight, high-efficiency panels; where it is generous, cost-focused panels make sense.

Shading

Where there is shade, half-cut construction and, if required, panel-level optimisation.

Load capacity

On a weak roof, light or flexible panels; a structural calculation is mandatory.

Warranty

Look for a 10–12 year product warranty and a 25 year performance warranty.

Frequently asked questions

Monocrystalline or polycrystalline?

Almost every installation today is monocrystalline. It produces more from the same area and the price gap is no longer what it once was. Polycrystalline is only considered where space is plentiful and budget very tight.

How long does a panel last?

The performance warranty is typically 25 years, and even at the end of that period a panel is expected to produce about 80% of its original output. Physical life is usually longer; the first part of a system to be replaced is normally the inverter.

Turkish-made or imported panels?

We use both. Turkish manufacturers (CW Enerji, Kalyon, Gazioğlu, TommaTech) have the advantage on lead time and after-sales support; imported brands lead on certain technologies. The choice follows the project’s budget and delivery schedule.
