Ready-Made Solar Packages

A ready-made package is a fast and economical start where the requirement is standard. But it is not the name of the package that matters — it is the battery and inverter capacity inside it.

When is a package the right choice?

Where consumption is predictable and limited — an allotment, a small vineyard house, a caravan — a ready-made package is both cheap and quick. The components are matched to each other and installation time is short.

Where consumption is variable or high, a package falls short. If there is air conditioning, an electric hob or a deep well pump, bespoke sizing is essential.

What to look for in a package

Package capacity is usually quoted in panel watts, but what really decides is the battery capacity and the inverter’s continuous power rating. A package with 3 kW of panels will not last the evening if its battery is small.

Three questions to ask when choosing a package:

  • How many kWh is the battery, and what type — lithium or gel?
  • What is the inverter’s continuous power, and its peak power?
  • Is the charge controller MPPT, and can it be set to the battery type?

How to choose

Daily energy need

Work out the budget in kWh first; the package follows from that.

Highest instantaneous load

With a pump or motor, the inverter’s peak power must be sufficient.

Room to expand

Can panels or batteries be added later?

Frequently asked questions

Ready-made package or a bespoke system?

If your consumption is standard and limited — lighting, a refrigerator, phone charging — a package is economical. With high loads such as air conditioning, an electric hob or a deep well pump, bespoke sizing is required; otherwise the system falls short and you pay twice.

Can I expand the package later?

Panels can be added if the inverter and controller have the capacity; adding batteries requires units of the same type and age. If you expect to expand, choosing a slightly larger inverter at the outset is the right move.
